Zoning and the Westerly Comprehensive Plan Zoom call Feb 17, 2021

The AHA Board held a Zoom meeting with Ms. Ashley Sweet, a Zoning consultant with Weston and Sampson Engineering on February 17, 2021.  She explained many of the details of the Westerly Comprehensive plan that will affect Avondale (and Westerly) residents in a very clear and understandable format.  It is highly recommended that all interested residents watch this Zoom meeting to become better informed regarding future planning for our neighborhood and town.

Mooring Permit Applications & Renewals

The Harbor Management Plan for the Town of Westerly, in conjunction with CRMC, was implemented in 2019.  If you have a mooring, you need to apply for a permit to keep that mooring.  The application will be reviewed by the Harbormaster. Assuming everything on the application is in order and consistent with the guidelines of the Plan, a permit will be issued.  The application fee is $25 (payable online with a credit card).  If your application is approved, the registration fee will be $250 for all moorings including both waterfront owners with riparian moorings and everyone else.  Applications are also being taken for the waiting list. Fees will be required every year to retain your mooring and you will be contacted for renewal by the Harbormaster.

You can apply for a new mooring permit at www.westerlyri.gov/permit.  You will need your boat information (registration number and Hull ID) and mooring info (location, size, water depth). You should also scan and attach proof of Westerly residence (i.e. driver's license or voter registration) and proof of ownership of boat.

It is also possible to apply on paper through the Town offices, but this will be much slower, more cumbersome and will delay the issuance of the permit.
